Mixtape: The 2nd Coming

Real Spit: For those wondering what Papoose has been up to, here is your answer. Mixtape Daily caught up with the Brooklyn wordsmith recently at Gleason's Gym. While the BK institution is where boxers go to train and sharpen their knuckle game, Pap is back with a new mixtape (#24, by his count) that he insists will let heads know his verbal jabs are still sharp.

"The reason why I called the mixtape The 2nd Coming is because when I first came in the scene, I shook the ground, I had the whole industry petrified, I took a million-plus," Pap told Mixtape Daily, referring to the reportedly million-dollar recording deal he signed with Jive Records back in 2006. "This time I'm coming back, it's going to be even worse. Y'all know what I did before. See what I did; now, round two."

Despite the blockbuster record deal, the Most Lyrical One has yet to release his debut album, The Nacirema Dream. According to the rapper — who is married to incarcerated MC Remy Ma — he was able to walk away from Jive in 2007 with his money and his masters, so after some career ups and downs, his album really is on the way. Until then, The 2nd Coming is hosted by his longtime supporter DJ Kay Slay and features appearances from Busta Rhymes, Sheek Louch, Gudda Gudda, Karina Bradley, Raekwon and Tony Yayo as well as his Thugacation crew.

"I feel like l'm more mature now and I got a lot more to offer the game than what I had back then," Pap said. "So I'm glad my album didn't come. Now with my album coming out, I think I'm well-prepared. This mixtape will really show a first-time listener what hip-hop represents."

Joints to Check For
» "6 Foot 7 Freestyle." "It's just me in rare form, going in, doing what I'm doing," Papoose explained. "The beat is inspirational. It's just one of them beats that make you say, 'Damn, I want to rap on that beat.' I think it's an inspirational track, so I had to hop on it and show 'em what I'm bringing to the table."

» "I Don't Eat No Ham." "You know, Jay-Z and Kanye had the record 'I'm about to go H.A.M.,' but you know me, I got knowledge of self, I don't eat no ham. So that title is 'No Ham,' I'm going in."

» "Last Man Standing." "The Gudda Gudda collab happened through a mutual friend," Papoose explained. "Basically he reached out to me and told me Gudda respect what I'm doing, I let him know vice versa, I respect his music. Me and Gudda got on the phone, chopped it up, and we came out with the joint. Shout out to the whole Young Money on that. We just basically expressing what it feels like to be the last man standing. The cats who came up with me they not here no more or either they crossed over and doing something totally wack. I feel like I'm the last man standing that represent that real hardcore lyrical hip-hop."

'Rio' Continues To Dance At #1 Over Holiday Weekend

'Madea's Big Happy Family,' 'Water for Elephants' can't shake animated flick from the top of the box office.
By Ryan J. Downey

"Rio"

The box office got a boost from kids over the holiday weekend as "Rio" held on to the top spot with moviegoers and the Easter-themed "Hop" crossed the $100 million mark, according to studio estimates. Overall ticket sales were up 39 percent from the same period last year. Strengthened by 3-D showings, the animated "Rio" earned $26.8 million for a two-week domestic total of $81.2 million.

Filmmaker Tyler Perry has released three movies around Easter, and this year's entry, "Madea's Big Happy Family," sat right in the middle of his scorecard, with a $25.7 million debut ("Meet the Browns" opened with $20.1 million in 2008; "Why Did I Get Married Too?" made $29.3 million last year). But it suffered the lowest debut of any of the entries in his poorly reviewed "Madea" series. Still, that was good enough to take the #2 spot for the weekend.

Robert Pattinson did double the business of his last non-"Twilight" starring role with "Water for Elephants," which debuted with $17.5 million to land at #3 on the box-office tally. Of course, last year's "Remember Me" didn't have Academy Award winners Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz or best-selling source material from novelist Sara Gruen. The romantic drama opened on par with the similarly themed "The Notebook," adjusted for inflation. "Elephants" has split critics almost down the middle, according to movie review website Rotten Tomatoes.

"Hop" jumped 16 percent from last weekend (it is, after all, about the Easter Bunny) with $12.4 million to land at number four. The live-action/animation hybrid has made $100.5 million in four weeks and joined Adam Sandler's "Just Go With It" ($102.6 million) and the year's top-grossing movie "Rango" ($119.5), on the very short list of movies to have earned over $100 million in 2011 thus far.

All of the prior entries in the "Scream" franchise grossed over $100 million or close to it ("Scream 3" made $89.1 million in 2000), but "Scream 4" won't come anywhere close to that mark. The self-referential horror sequel dropped 57 percent in its second weekend of release, earning $7.1 million to land at #5 on the chart with $31.1 million total. Meanwhile, the little $1.5 million horror movie "Insidious" from "Saw" director James Wan has made $44.1 million in four weeks.

Next week's new releases include "Fast Five" (currently the best-reviewed of the action franchise); the animated "Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil"; Disney's tween-friendly "Prom"; comic-book-based "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night," starring former "Superman" Brandon Routh; and actor Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut, "Sympathy for Delicious."

Check out everything we've got on "Rio" and "Water for Elephants."

Lindsay Lohan Visits the "Tonight Show"

After avoiding public sightings over the Easter weekend, Lindsay Lohan was spotted making her way out of her Venice, California condo on Monday afternoon (April 25).

The "Mean Girls" starlet was on her way to a taping of the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" at NBC studios while currently out on bail after being sentenced by an LA judge to serve 120 days in jail for violating her probation.

Also set to be completing a whopping 480 hours of community service, reports tell that LiLo will soon find herself working in a morgue.

Apparently, Lohan will join a coroner in doing 120 hours of maintenance and janitorial work, as Asst. Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner told press, "She will empty trash, vacuum, clean restrooms. She won't be in the autopsy area. However, there will be some exposure to bodies. She'll see them but won't touch them."

Audrina Patridge Rooting For Kirstie Alley On 'Dancing With The Stars'

'She's the underdog, but she gets up and she keeps going,' reality star says.
By Jocelyn Vena

Audrina Patridge
Photo: MTV News

It's been an interesting season for Kirstie Alley on "Dancing With the Stars." She's had several dancing flubs (cue pal John Travolta to lend his support) yet has managed to survive another week as the show's fans bid a fond farewell to supermodel Petra Nemcova on last week's episode.

It seems that Alley keeps getting saved, despite low scores, thanks to some big fans, like former "DWTS" contestant and reality star Audrina Patridge.

"I'm watching 'Dancing With the Stars.' I watched the first couple episodes and I'm definitely rooting for Maks and Kirstie. I really think that Kirstie Alley ... she's the underdog," Patridge told MTV News when she stopped by to talk about her new VH1 reality show, "Audrina." "But she gets up and she keeps going and she has such a great personality."

Audrina was one of the strongest dancers last season, at least technically (she was criticized for lacking some joie de vivre on the dance floor). She didn't end up winning, but she did walk away with a love of all things strictly ballroom.

"I mean, I loved every second of it," she added. "I would do it again in a heartbeat. It's a new passion that I discovered. I love dancing, ballroom dancing."

For now, Audrina has danced her final dance and these days will be focused on showing the world another side of herself on her latest reality TV venture. "It's different and similar [to 'The Hills'], and in many ways I feel like it's different because it's really about my life outside of 'The Hills' world," Patridge said about the show. "And so this is really up close and personal. My family's in it, my relationship's in it and my business is in it, my endorsements and everything, like, my dreams and goals and trying to achieve that."

Britney Spears 'Comes Alive' In The Studio, will.i.am Says

'She was like a little kid,' the 'Big Fat Bass' producer recalls to MTV News of giddy, 'giggling' Spears.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

will.i.am
Photo: MTV News

When will.i.am hit the studio with Britney Spears for her Femme Fatale track "Big Fat Bass," the producer and Black Eyed Peas frontman said the singer was completely engrossed in the recording process.

"[I discovered] her love for music. I never seen anyone, like, come alive, full of excitement and giggling and laughing behind the mic," will recalled to MTV News. "She was like a little kid when she was recording the song and it just brought the whole atmosphere, it changed the whole atmosphere when someone really loves music. So it was great working with her."

Spears expressed a similar sentiment about recording her chart-topping album during her recent "I Am the Femme Fatale" MTV special, which featured a cameo by will.i.am, who was finishing up the party track at the time.

"When you're in the studio, you're just really focused, you're really in your head and in your ears and on the notes," she explains in the show. "And when you're performing, it's more a connection on the outside and more of — like a tiger and more in your body."

Both Brit and will are now industry vets so the BEP singer said he didn't have much advice for the star.

"When someone's excited to go out and just do it, what advice? You don't need no advice. She's just turned on right now. She is [like], 'I like this part right here.' When I say [on the song], 'You all better get ready for the kick drum,' she was already anticipating what she was going to do onstage when that beat broke down," he explained. "Adding that type of perspective ... when we we're recording it, you don't need to give nobody [like Britney] advice."

What's your favorite Femme Fatale track? Tell us in the comments!

Newlywed Reese Witherspoon's Easter with the Family

Spending their first Easter together as a married couple, Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth ventured out for church in Santa Monica, CA on Sunday (April 24).

The newlyweds were all smiles as they joined Reese's little ones, Ava and Deacon, in the visit to the house of worship before exiting a little over an hour later alongside Matthew McConaughey's wife, Camila Alves, and their two children, Levi and Vida.

The family Easter outing follows a big weekend for Miss Witherspoon - who saw her new movie "Water for Elephants" released in theaters beginning this past Friday, April 22nd.

Co-starring "Twilight" heartthrob Robert Pattinson, the book-based circus picture did well for itself in placing third at the box office with an estimated weekend take of $17.5 million.

Diddy-Dirty Money Stage New York Takeover On Coming Home Tour

Ja Rule, Ashanti also surprise fans before Diddy pays homage to B.I.G. with Bad Boy alums Faith Evans, Black Rob and more at Hammerstein Ballroom.

NEW YORK -- It was the homecoming leg on his Coming Home Tour, so it was only fitting that Harlem-born Diddy threw a Ciroc-soaked "white party" on Friday as Diddy-Dirty Money hit New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. The trio worked the dance hits from their Last Train to Paris, but this was a show in three acts, with the mogul/MC reaching back to the dawn of Bad Boy to pay an expansive tribute to "Brooklyn's Finest" MC, the Notorious B.I.G., and bringing concertgoers along on a visual/sonic journey that spanned his unstoppable career.

Diddy-Dirty Money divas Dawn Richard and Kalenna Harper preceded Diddy to the stage in looks that seemed to channel Grace Jones: Dawn in a thigh-baring cutout dress and Kalenna in a glittery romper, both sharing the creamy palette with Diddy, who was dressed in a sporty, all-white ensemble. The ladies kicked things off with "Yeah, Yeah You Would" (which features Jones), before an energetic Diddy emerged for the dance-floor banger "Ass on the Floor," with Swizz Beatz delivering the hook via a pre-taped clip that was mounted on enormous projectors -- an artfully executed stand-in used throughout the night for other LTP features like Rick Ross and Lil Wayne.

"Ain't no place like home!" Sean Combs told the excited crowd, touching on his Mt. Vernon, New York, upbringing and breaking down why no other city can match New York's swag.

An emotional undercurrent coursed through the entire show, and the series of delays that plagued Last Train to Paris, 41-year-old Combs' risk-taking concept album, seemed to be a particularly poignant theme on Friday night. Mr. "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" danced with abandon, his son Justin briefly joining him onstage with some sharp moves of his own. But Justin was only the first of a string of cameos, many from artists who'd once batted on Bad Boy's chart-busting lineup.

After performing "Loving You No More," "Yesterday" and a moody Sade medley from Dawn and K that seemed to slow things down too much for the club-like atmosphere they'd created, a B.I.G. video montage set the tone for the show's second act. Memorable images of the young Bedford Stuyvesant MC and budding mogul Puff Daddy flashed across the screen, following a linear "This Is Your Life"- style narrative.

Dawn and Kalenna ceded the stage to Diddy entirely as he launched into Bad Boy Records' shiny-suit era smashes, from "All About the Benjamins" to "Mo Money, Mo Problems." The New York audience lost it for the familiar classics, but went 'ham for the familiar faces. Formerly incarcerated Black Rob, in requisite black hoodie, turned up for "Whoa"; newly raven-haired Faith Evans sang a silky version of her "Love Like This"; and Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s Lil' Cease made a cameo.

"I was looking for inspiration before Last Train to Paris, and I was walking in Central Park one day and I heard this song," Diddy recalled, introducing A Tribe Called Quest MC and longtime Diddy pal Q-Tip. The duo treated fans to a spirited dance-off as they ticked off Tribe standards like "Check the Rhime" and Tip's "Vivrant Thing."

But the presence of the late Christopher Wallace hovered over the proceedings. Diddy, now rocking a vintage Versace shirt, profusely thanked his fallen brother as more B.I.G. videos played on an overhead screen to cheers and shouts. The standing-room crowd, waving hands and phones in the air, was fired up for the nostalgic trip. Things drew to an end with the other two thirds of DDM taking their places onstage again for the triumphant, introspective "Coming Home," followed by closer "Hello, Good Morning."

Opening act Lloyd had a few special guests of his own, bringing out his onetime Murder Inc. labelmates Ashanti and Ja Rule, who's several weeks away from a two-year jail sentence on gun charges. The gruff-voiced Ja showed little signs of rust on his Ashanti-featuring "Always on Time," the infectious chart-topping single that ruled the summer a decade ago. Lloyd's Young Money brethren and fellow opener Tyga hopped back onstage to drop his "BedRock" verse. And a go-go breakdown of "Lay Your Head" accompanied Wale's appearance with the crooner.

Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj And Ke$ha 'Till The World Ends' Remix Leaks

Reworked tune features an opening verse by Minaj as Ke$ha sings atop Spears' vocals throughout the song.
By James Dinh

Britney Spears' "Til The World Ends"
Photo: Jive

Britney Spears isn't the only pop titan dancing until the world ends: Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha have joined forces to add a new spin on an all-female remix of Femme Fatale's second single, "Till the World Ends."

The reworked dance anthem, which leaked online Friday (April 22), appears to have surfaced earlier than expected as noted by a series of countdowns on all three of the stars' websites.

Mixing the dance tune's original sonic swirls with heavier bass, Britney tourmate Minaj starts off the remix by throwing down an aggressive verse, in which she calls out a female hater: "A-A-A-A-A-AYE!/ Chimpanzees is hatin', but I take it all in stride/ Put her in a jungle with bananas on the side/ Told you they'd revive your career, but somebody lied/ I ain't talkin' poultry when I say this chicken's fried."

After Minaj spits a few introductory bars, Spears delivers the song's first verse before an introduction for the all-star trio. "It's Britney, bitch. I'm Nicki Minaj and that's Ke$ha!" the Young Money MC proclaims.

Ke$ha, who originally wrote the track for the pop princess, takes part in singing the club-ready track's chorus. Spears soon takes back control of the song as Ke$ha shadows the singer's lines toward the end of the second verse and bridge. Unlike the original version, the "Till the World Ends" remix also features a stuttering dubstep dance break.

News of a star-studded collaboration was hinted earlier this week when producer Dr. Luke tweeted, "@NICKIMINAJ killed it tonight!!!! thanks!!!"

Lindsay Lohan's Theft Charge Reduced To Misdemeanor

At a preliminary hearing, judge also rules that the alleged necklace theft was in violation of Lohan's probation.
By MTV News staff

Lindsay Lohan received some slightly good news today: Her original felony charge stemming from the alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace back in January was reduced to a misdemeanor. The problem-plagued actress will still have to stand trial, as Judge Stephanie Sautner ruled that the theft was in violation of Lohan's probation.

According to TMZ, the reduced charge indicates that Lohan might not face jail time; the punishment will be determined after the verdict in the trial.

The Associated Press reports that, in reducing the charge, Sautner said she was giving the actress "an opportunity." The misdemeanor still has a potential penalty of a year in jail.

Late last month, Lohan turned down a plea deal offered by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office after being told by Judge Keith Schwartz that had she accepted the DA's deal — reportedly six months of jail time — she would have been found in violation of her probation and could serve more time.

Lohan allegedly lifted a $2,500 necklace from a Venice, California, jewelry store on January 22. The owner reported the theft to the Los Angeles Police Department, which later investigated the accusation and presented evidence to the District Attorney's office. Up until Judge Sautner's ruling, the actress had been officially charged with one count of felony grand theft and faced up to three years in prison.

Lohan's trial date was set for June 3 and a pretrial date for May 11. Lohan must be present at both hearings.

E. Dan Talks Building Wiz Khalifa's Sound 'From Scratch'

Rolling Papers producer tells Mixtape Daily they found 'natural rhythm.'

Mixtape Daily: Behind the Beats

Fans might not know Pittsburgh producer Eric Dan (E. Dan for short), but they sure as heck know his work. After crafting six out of 14 tracks on Wiz Khalifa's debut album, Rolling Papers, it shouldn't be long before hip-hop heads start catching on.

In 2003, Dan opened his own studio, ID Labs, outside of Pittsburgh. When a young Wiz Khalifa strolled in looking to record, the producer took the Taylor Gang general under his wing and has been working him every step of the way. "It's been a great thing for [ID Labs] to be involved with an artist almost from his inception to where he is now," E. Dan said.

Where Wiz is now is at the top of the charts. It was the rapper's #1 single "Black and Yellow" that spearheaded the Khalifa craze, helping Rolling Papers sell just under 300,000 copies since its March 29 release, but it was songs like the E. Dan-produced "The Race" and "When I'm Gone" that provided the LP with its substance.

"With this album, we wanted to go in together from scratch," said Dan, who splits production duties with his partner, Big Jerm. According to Dan, the bulk of the tracks on Rolling Papers came together organically, thanks to the comfortable relationship Dan and Wiz had been building for years. "Working with somebody from that young and working with him for so long, you fall into a natural rhythm, and over time you end up building this sound together," Dan said.

The recording session for Wiz's "The Race" sticks out in E. Dan's mind as an example of their overall organic chemistry. "Wiz fell asleep," the producer recalled. "We put [the beat] together; a couple of hours later, Wiz woke up and said, 'Whoa — that's it!' Next thing we knew, he jumped in the booth and did the song."

From there followed "Star of the Show," "Get Your Sh--," "Fly Solo," "Cameras" and the intro, "When I'm Gone." Dan has already worked with Pittsburgh breakouts Mac Miller and Chevy Woods, but said he is excited about branching out and adding to his resume. With upcoming production for international rap star K'Naan, it shouldn't be long before the Pittsburgh producer is a worldwide name.

'American Idol' In 60 Seconds: Stefano Says Goodbye To James

This week, we may have witnessed the start of a beautiful friendship.
By Jim Cantiello

On this week's "American Idol" the bottom six reminded us why we didn't vote for them. And then the top seven tackled songs from the 21st century and ironically, season 10 staple will.i.am was nowhere to be found. Here's what else we noticed in this week's "American Idol" in 60 Seconds:

Casey and James proved they could be current pop stars by singing terribly and surrounding themselves with a whole lot of distracting bullsh--.

But my favorite was Haley. She can do no wrong.

[Clip of Haley going sharp as she sings the word "deeeep" in the chorus. ]

Except that note.

And then there was Jacob, who heard crap in his ear. And then we heard crap in our ears.

[Clip of J.Lo telling Jacob, "It's hard to perform when a song means that much to you."]

You speak from experience, J.Lo? Wow, those most have been some amazing Louboutins.

On Thursday night's results show ... [Group sings "Hey Soul Sister."]

Oh, hell no!

[Katy Perry singing "E.T."]

OK, JUST KIDDING I'D RATHER HEAR MORE TRAIN SONGS INSTEAD OF THAT.

And then David Cook came back to pimp out his mom and debut his new hair. I mean, single. (No, I mean hair.)

[Clip of Stefano and James Durbin bro-ing out.]

Awww, look they're friends!

[Clip of James giving Stefano a massage.]

Close friends!

[Stefano is eliminated, James Durbin is devastated.]

Really close friends!

[James tackles and lifts Stefano at the end of his farewell performance.]

Oh, girl, they're definitely .

Ding!

'Scream 4': Wes Craven Speculates On The Franchise's Future And More Prescott Family Drama

With all the hype and excitement surrounding "Scream 4," I'm actually surprised it didn't perform better at the box office last weekend. Wes Craven directing! Kevin Williamson writing! CANDIDS: Rihanna, Nicole Ari Parker, Weezy & Baby Out & About

Looks like Rihanna got her 4/20 celebration on yesterday.  She hit up an intimate private performance by Lauryn Hill in L.A. late last night.  And she rocked her rasta hat atop her red hair, and carried a sparkling cannabis leaf clutch.  We have a feeling she enjoyed herself quite nicely.

Pics of Rih, plus Nicole Ari Parker and Baby & Lil Wayne when you read on....

After making history as the first solo artist to have 10 #1 singles on the Billboard charts in the shortest amount of time, Rihanna rolled to Lauryn Hill's event to celebrate last night.

She tapped into her caribbean roots and got her rasta queen on with a rasta hat and cannabis inspired clutch.

And after leaving her late night session, she was immediately whisked away with her dark shades on and looking a bit out of it.  Celebration indeed.

The gorgeous Nicole Ari Parker was spotted in L.A. shopping at The Grove after lunch.  And also participating in the 'She Runs LA' event.

She looked laid back and cute as usual.  Wonder what else she's up to these days....

And sports fanatic Lil Wayne hit the sidelines of the Lakers/Hornets playoff game last night in L.A.  He was likely rooting for his home team New Orleans, but the Lakers won by 11.

His "pops" Baby was there too....with the whole entourage:

I'm sure the fellas had some fun.
